You Say Neurotic; I Say Good Hygiene

So I was giving away chocolate at my desk today when a co-worker dropped a couple pieces on the floor near my trash can and intimated he wanted to put them back in the bag.

"Oh, no," I said. "You keep those."

I was told I was "nuts" and was sent this video in response.

What? That video seems like it contains some good advice to me.

Critical question: Were the chocolates on the floor for longer than 3 seconds? This is the time-honored, if not scientifically sound, dividing line between safe and icky.

Un Ad - I thought so too!

David - Definitely longer than seconds but, um... they were wrapped. Did I mention that? That doesn't help my case at all... But in my defense, my trash can is gross and this all occurred just inches from my dirty shoes.

I wonder if they maid such a film about MILFs....

Funny, HE didn't want to keep them!

Were the chocolates wrapped? I assume no. I agree with UA there was some pretty good advice in the video. I hate it when I have dreams about a giant bar of soap.

You should not trust anything this pseudo male says or does.

First of all, there should have been no discussion or hesitation on the, part of the, now pseudo male. It should have picked up the wrapped chocolates and consumed them along with the others it had taken from the bag. That would have taken care of the non-issue.

Continuing the rant...I loathe people insisting we all use sani-wipes and hand sanitizer. These are the same people refusing to drink recycled toilet water because they have no understanding of how filters, chemicals and bacteria work. Sure, I wash my hands after I use the bathroom and I castigate those choosing not to. I once saw one moron simply wipe his hands with a paper towel after firing one out. At the end of the day, there are far more important things to worry about than whether or not a chocolate candy was somehow contaminated by being dropped near a foot and a trashcan. How many bananas have we all eaten without worrying about where it has been sitting or whom has touched it with their poo finger? As a rule, bananas are probably the safest fruit you can eat because of the skin. The same goes for the candy.

For a list of the things worth worrying about, see my comment on the Superbad post.

I'll swear on a stack of Bibles, T. That is the first time I've ever seen the word "intimated".

Regardless of whether there is something to fear or not, it bugs you. And yes, he should have seen this as an opportunity for Free Chocolate.

Nice video. :)

Everyone in the world should heed that informative video, what's the problem? Especially frightening are those dirty, nasty, cowboy germs, be warned!

M@ - I'm guessing by now you've looked into it. Let me know what you find out.

XOXO - Yes, they were wrapped. But before everyone jumps on my back, let the record show these were RIGHT NEXT to my dirty trashcan, and just inches from my feet. I can tolerate opening them right away and eating them... but putting them back in the bag and cross-contaminating the others? The Egyptians had the right idea with quarantine in the Middle Ages. It's the same idea, only... with chocolate.

STC - You're a very angry person. For the record, I don't inflict my sanitation habits on anyone else; I may carry Germ-X with me, but I don't *insist* others use it. Though, yeah, I may offer...

Woodrow - I certainly hope I used it properly!

Pamela - My sentiments exactly!

BPP - Ha ha. It "bugs" me. Priceless.

Stacy - I was thinking the exact same thing. Dirty cowboys. Anyone who's seen Brokeback Mountain knows better.

It would not have mattered if the wraped candy was in the bag in the store bag. I honestly believe that your reaction would have been the same!
