Emesis

So I vomited at work today.

But I didn't just vomit. I left in the middle of an important meeting with five others (4 of whom are 1-3 pay grades above me); brushed rudely past a couple co-workers who asked -- rather congenialy -- why I looked so distraught; and then made it to the porcelain goddess just in time.

Trooper that I am, I returned to the meeting and actually starting engaging in conversation, my nausea somewhat abated and my migraine slightly less intense.

But I certainly still didn't feel well, but we had a very hot project to address. And even though my boss told me I looked like I needed to go home (and gave me full permission to do so), I stuck it out. Took a cat nap in the bathroom. Finished a draft. Went over it with him. And then...

And then...

Someone walked in to tell us to not work on it too hard, because it was probably going to be cancelled.

No kidding.

But we were pretty well into it, and so decided to finish it "just in case."

I wound up leaving 15 minutes late. Not a big deal on any normal day, but when you consider I was first given the go ahead to go home at 10 a.m....

Anyway. That's the sort of employee I am, in case you wondered.

I go to work with crippling migraines. Leave important meetings to puke. And then take naps in the bathroom.

Awesome.

You should use my method of how to maintain employment. I do just enough to get "coached" a couple of times a year. Anything more than that and I'm doing more than I'm paid to. Besides, if I'm a real go getter, it still will not stop them from laying me off or firing me for an infraction. I would rather work hard on my own time.

P.S. Should I feel bad when I sleep more than an hour at work?

Really funny posts lately! Thanks for the laugh.

That is insanity. Of course this is coming from the guy who went to work when his girlfriend told him not to because he was too sick so he could work on something that he was told was super important, only to finish it and have it sit collecting dust for three weeks. You staying at work with a migraine bad enough to make you vomit is several orders of magnitude more committed than me with my nasty as all hell cold, though. This is what working for The Man has done to us.

Wow. Women must be more conscientious. I once got fired for getting bombed at a business conference and challenging a board member to a drinking contest.

(She was such a pill.)

After all that you still had the energy to write a substantial blog post !

I'm humbled.

STC - Man, I want your job.

Eli - I aim to please.

BPP - Part of the reason I stuck around is that I really wasn't fit to drive. So I napped and then finished my work.

Matt - No comment on the board member debacle, but, yeah, it's been my experience that woman are more conscientious.

Glen - I take my blogging responsibilities very seriously. That, or I was feeling a bit better when I got home, wrote up that bit, and then feel asleep around 7p.m. when I tried to take a "nap."

I'm sure your efforts will be rewarded with more responsibility along with the same pay.

That's rough. I'm sorry you didn't feel well. I'm glad you're feeling better, sort of. You were a trooper, though.
