Waste of Time & Money

In the last two days, I returned about 70% of the items I purchased for my new apartment. Rugs to cover up the water stains on the hardwood floor from God-knows-what. Curtains for the dining room. A new tea pot (the color perfectly matched my kitchen!) to replace the ruined one.

I've simply stopped caring about trying to make any "vintage" apartment in this city feel like home.

My boxes are unpacked.

We'll call it sufficient.

Wait, why are you returning the stuff? You like the stains? You don't want tea?

I previously posted a much longer entry that explained in more detail why I returned so much of the stuff. But it was so verbose, I went back to the short version.

Essentially: Every apartment has unique needs, and I move too frequently to sink so much cash into every one. Whenever I move to a new place, with a different configuration, I need new things to make it work. But then when I move to the next place, many of those purchases are useless. It's a waste of time and money.

Example: the curtains rods at my old place won't fit here. And nice rugs are expensive, a committment I'm not sure I should make until I'm someplace a bit more "permanent."

As for the teapot: it matched my kitchen here. But who knows what'll happen when I move. In the meantime, I'll just boil water in a regular ol' pot.

I got called away from my desk by strawberries so I can't remember if I commented.
I was going to say "Money pit."

Could be worse. I have lived in my condo almost four years and it looks like I moved in six months ago still.

You sound like you aren't putting down roots.

But I need stuff.

I can't return things.

Ever.
