Five Lions, Two Alligators and a Herd of Cape Buffalo Walk into a Bar...
The Discovery Channel is well and good, but I'm the sort of person who'll change the station if I suspect we're going to see one animal eat another.
So you can trust me when I tell you, the pay-off on this one is worth it.

That was some great footage. I suspect the lion that got hooked didn't make it. To get tossed like that without getting badly gored would be a miracle. Then again, there were a couple of miracles in that video so who knows.
And the nerd in me can't resist pointing out that those are Cape Buffalo. I think Water Buffalo are only found in Asia.
Good call, Woodrow. I just looked both up... they're eerily similar in appearance but you're exactly right. Cape Buffalo = Africa. Water Buffalo = Asia. I've updated accordingly.

Why does everyone always root for the herbivore? Is it the underdog thing? I'm a Cubs fan and I always root for the predators. I wonder what that says about me.

That was amazing footage, I realize it's nature, and of course the lions have to eat, but I so wanted the baby to get away.
I watched that toss a couple of times. :)
BPP - I do think it's an underdog thing. As for myself... I was rooting for the poor little baby buffalo, but I also felt badly when the lion was flipped.
In sum: I don't like to see anyone/anything get injured. I do think the world would be better off if we all turned into peace-loving vegetarians.
I'd seen this footage once before. Seeing it a second time doesn't make it any less spell-binding though!
That was the worst game of Tug-of- War I have ever witnessed. I was waiting for the alligators to rise up at the end and eat the last lion, that would have been cool.
I wonder if the baby buffalo survived.... It must have had horrid injuries from both lions and croc. It seemed the herd came a little too late.
Tonight I watched a beautiful dove fly up from the trees and a hawk was right on its tail.
they were out of sight quickly... so I don't know if the dove got away.
Nature is savage.
I can't believe the baby survived all that -
And sorry, my heart goes out to those poor lions. (it's the carnivore in me - I do like my cats).
And the Bartender said. . . you all look as if you need a drink?
Baby Buffalo:
"..so then these lions have got hold of my neck and I've got TWO crocs on my arse..."
Baby Buffalo's mates:
"Yeah right, as if!"
I like the way the Buffalo seem to come back with an angry posse.
Gives new meaning to the phrase "strength in numbers" doesn't it!! That is an amazing video.. You have to respect that a lions have to eat. But I certainly was excited to see that little guy get up and get back to his family.
