Happy S.A.D.!

Today somewhere in America, one friend of mine will be receiving the following homemade card in the mail.

Now, I know what you're thinking: the thirdworstpoetinthegalaxy has friends?

I'm as surprised as you are.

Anyway. Because I like you all so much I thought I'd share with you an electronic version of my handiwork, outside and in.

Now before I go, just a brief reminder that it's OK to be alone on the 2nd most depressing day of the year. Your melancholia just might do the world some good. Besides, who cares if you're miserable so long as everyone else is happy....

I hope you have a wonderful day...label it any way you wish...but be happy!

I have a friend who is so freaked about being sans date this year. I have to take her to dinner tonight. Seriously, we let marketing affect us this much?

Perhaps you and your fiend would enjoy this video.

Great card 3rd! It is a rather rueful holiday, too many expectations for everyone involved... I think it's hard for people in relationships as well as for singles.

Oh, by the way, I posted a special Valentines comic today, hope you like it!

Why is it the second most depressing day and not the most depressing?

I'm glad you too are coming around to my stance on the two important things in life.

I like the card. V.D. is the commercial holiday equivalent of a diamond. Anyone thrown into depression just because it is Thursday should be hit repeatedly in the head with a tack hammer.

When there is a large enough hole, fill with black powder from a cartoon keg and make a trail for a fuse. Strike match on patched pants and stare at flame momentarily to savor the moment. Light fuse. Enjoy.

This is a slight variation on the Flaming Brain Tumor idea.

I gave all my old men customers Scooby- Doo paper Valentines. If Id a had your address, I would have sent you one. This emotional attachment to the belief system of love and relationships on this Saint's day is such commercial garbage. My huband got a Scooby-Doo paper Valentine too. Love exists when you are ready, regardless of what day it is.

If loneliness was a crime,
It would rank up there with homicide.

It brings more agony than an untempered, tiresome time,

When all we wish to do is hide
within ourselves,

while longing for company to keep, someone to make us feel special on an ordinary day,

lest we abide on the brink of a purifying weep, so many warm tears to wash our blues away.
