Conversations with My Five-Year-Old Nephew

Him: So I'm back to walking again.

Me: Really? Where are you walking to?

Him: Everywhere. But I need a walking stick.

Me: Why do you need a walking stick?

Him: Because I'm an old man now!

Me: What? You're just five! How can you be an old man?

Post Script: I haven't been reading and commenting on your blogs this week as much as I would like. With the car buying and such, it's been crazy these past few days. Hope to catch up with everyone by early next week.

I love talking to kids that age. My niece used to speed dial me all the time to have weird conversations.

See, he wants to be older and you just squashed his little dreams. :) And if he thinks he's old NOW, just wait young whipper snapper!

  7. Is your nephew David Lynch? That guy has no regard for space/time.

  10. Winter - Now that just doesn't seem prudent.

    (He already has one.)

  11. Beth - He always says interesting things, but on this occasion he soared to an entirely new plane.

  12. DWC - Ask me about it later. It's nothing special, really. Still, it has A/C and both windows roll down. So I'm happy about that.

  13. BB - I'm saving that for his 21st birthday?

Not really. I'm a very uncool aunt. I'll probably buy him a skyways (i.e. the future "road") atlas and a flying car for his 21st birthday (provided I have the funds).

  14. Michael - Now that you mention it, I never have seen the two in the same place at once.

  15. BPP - The thought of my nephew being old depresses me. Because if he's old, of course that means I'm older...

  16. M@ - See above response to DWC. It's nothing special, really.

Pamela - I don't think he even remembers that conversation, so the joke would be lost on him.

Though I earnestly believe that every child should have a pet walking stick at some point.
